Rangiroa is located in the Tuamotu archipelago and is situated 340 km northeast of Tahiti. The island is made up of over 240 small motus (islets) in the shape of a ring. The crystal-clear water and different depths of the lagoon offer an array of blue colors.
The volcanic Tuamotu islands have no mountains since they are older and have sunken into the ocean. They are called atolls and offer a much drier climate than the higher mountainous islands.
